Authorities placed one of their own behind bars after surveillance video surfaced showing a Donna police officer using excessive force on a inmate.

Donna police officer George Novelos faces a number of charges including violation of the civil rights of a person in custody. Surveillance video captured the officer using excessive force on Jonathon Morales a week ago. The inmate was brought into custody after fighting in school and an argument started between the two. That is when officer Novelos sprayed Morales three times in the face with mace. The inmate was in so much pain in his eyes that he splashed toilet water into his eyes to relief the pain. Novelos is being held at the Hidalgo County Detention Center and the department continues to investigate into the incident.
