Police Involved Shooting Suspect Arraigned

ROMA- The man who was shot at after police say they were forced to open fire has been arraigned. According to police 26 year old Steven Anthony Rodriguez faces, deadly conduct, assault class A and evading arrest charges and his bond was set more than $10,000.

Police said Rodriguez was being sought by their department for assaulting an 18 year old male earlier during
the day and for threatening a second victim with a gun during a separate incident on Sunday. Police found Rodriguez's car and conducted a traffic stop but instead led police on a chase. Rodriguez attempted to run over two Roma Police Officers and they fired their weapons at  Rodriguez’s vehicle. He was taken into custody by assisting Law Enforcement Officers from several agencies.

The Roma Police Officers were not injured and Mr. Rodriguez sustained a non life threatening injury. He received medical treatment at Mcallen Medical Center and was later placed in the Starr County Jail.

Roma Police later learned that Mr. Rodriguez also had an open warrant for his arrest for the offense of Deadly Conduct. This incident happened back in January of this year.

The officers are on paid leave as the Texas Rangers investigates the matter.
