Police Have New Leads in Hit and Run That Killed Cyclist

MCALLEN-  It's been nearly three months since cyclist Roy Carlson,31, was killed while doing what he loved the most and police have new leads on the driver that hit him.  It happened on October 21,2010 of last off W Trenton Street and now police are releasing new evidence hoping they will catch the killer driver.

" We have developed information and now believe the vehicle involved is a 1990's model ford escort," said Sergeant Joel Morales of McAllen Police.

Police say through investigations and the debris that were left at the scene they determined the model and the make of the car that hit Carlson and his friend.

" This is important to us. it took a life of a person injured a second cyclist and we're trying to solve this crime," said Morales.


Till this day, markings from that accident is still on the street and a white bike was placed at the corner of North Main and Trenton in memory of Carlson. He died at the hospital while his friend received non-life threatening injuries. The accident happened in front of Cris Auto Service and workers there remembers that morning very vividly.
"Went over there and saw some blood there and it's tragic and like i said i hope they find the person that did this you know and pay for his mistakes," said Jose Rodriguez, a worker at Cris Auto Service.

Police say whoever the suspect is they will be facing accident involving personal injury or death charges, a felony.

The McAllen Crime Stoppers are offering a $5,000.00 dollar reward for information about the vehicle involved and the driver of this vehicle may be eligible for a reward if the information leads to arrest or indictment.
