La Joya police spent the day rounding up illegal immigrants in a handful of cases on Monday morning.
It all started at 5:30am on Monday when a sedan ran a stop sign and a La Joya police officer tried to pull the Impala over, but instead the driver sped off. The driver hit speeds of up to 166mph and ended when the driver hit a dirt road and turned off his headlights and then hit a concrete embankment. The driver and a possible passenger took off running and as police got closer to the car they could hear a noise coming from the trunk.
Inside the trunk were two illegal immigrants from Nicaragua and Guatemala. The U.S. Border Patrol took them into custody and are being prepared for deportation. The driver and accomplice are still on the run.
Shortly after that chase, La Joya police responded to another call at around 7:30am and arrested a driver who had four illegal immigrants in the car. At noon on Monday, police captured three more illegal immigrants making it a total of dozen illegals caught in three separate cases in one day.
