The San Juan Police Department is investigating this disturbing case after receiving an anonymous call last Thursday that 30-year-old, Ruby Lee Medina induced an abortion and planned to bury the fetus in the backyard.
“The preliminary investigation shows that she went to México, got a pill to self induce it.”
Police Chief Juan Gonzalez says Medina called her boyfriend, 37-year-old Javier Gonzalez, after the abortion and together, they planned to flush the fetus down the toilet but for some reason backed out of that plan.
“They retracted from that. The next plan was to put it in a box under the tree and then form a different plan.”
But the plan to bury the unborn child in Medina's backyard failed after police received that phone call. When police arrived at Medina's home on Sioux Road last Thursday, they found the fetus inside a gift box under the Christmas tree. At first, medina gave investigators conflicting stories about the abortion, but Chief Gonzalez says both Medina and Gonzalez are now cooperating.
“It might be capital murder if autopsy reveals the fetus was living and breathing fetus when she self-induced.”
The couple is now charged with abuse of corpse and tampering with evidence. Investigators are talking to other witnesses who say the couple has done something similar in the past.
