A two month search for 36-year old Ricardo Puentes is finally over.
“There was a report that was filed back in August in regards to a possible indecency with a child,” says Brownsville P.D. Officer J.J. Trevino.
When the case first opened back in August, officers only had a surveillance photo of Puentes who they were unable to identify at the time.
“Mr. Puentes was identified as a person of interest and a search warrant was eventually obtained for the indecency of a child,” says Trevino.
According to Trevino, investigators were able to locate Puentes yesterday afternoon thanks to a crime stoppers tip coming from the 800 block of East Harrison Street.
“We put out a picture of an unknown individual because at the time we didn't know who he was and the crime stoppers tip led to the identification of Mr. Puentes.”
Police reports indicate that the crime occurred at the Wal-Mart Supercenter off Boca Chica Boulevard and there may have been more than one victim.
“Detectives are asking the public to come forward if you believe you might have been a victim of an offense involving this individual they can contact the criminal investigation division at 548-7000.
Trevino says the subject has had a previous history regarding child indecency.
“I believe the investigators have obtained surveillance video that might show there were other victims.”
Brownsville P.D. arrested two other subjects yesterday for their involvement in similar activity. Trevino says the cases are unrelated. Puentes’ bond is set at $250,000.
