Brownsville police arrest three people after six children were left home alone during the overnight hours.

Margarita Carrizales, 22, Ana Maria Carrizales, 19, and Cristian Juarez, 19, have been charged with child abandonment.

A neighbor called police early Monday morning after hearing children crying and calling for their mother.

Officers found an open window and entered the apartment after attempting to find an adult responsible for the children. Both women and the man returned to the apartment and told police they had gone to pick the mother of two of the six children because she needed a ride and had been gone for over an hour.

It was determined that Margarita was the mother of two children and Ana of two other children. Both Carrizales' and Juarez were arrested and charged with child abandonment.

The children were left with family members and Child Protective Services was notified.
