Several Planned Parenthood supporters gathered to protest the potential cuts in the state wide Medicaid program.

Activists and patients rallied in front of Planned Parenthood headquarters in McAllen to let local residents know of the services which could be cut for the program. The protesters say over 250,000 women could lose access to exams, birth control, cancer screenings and other services provided by Planned Parenthood. They say cutting the Medicaid program would leave almost 23,000 women in Hidalgo county without a healthcare provider.

The rally was one of several held across the state on Wednesday and officials from the organization say they hope it can convince legislators that family planning programs are necessary.
