The chief of police at the University of California Davis has been placed on administrative leave after campus officers used pepper spray on peaceful Occupy protesters.
University officials say it was necessary to place Chief Annette Spicuzza on leave in order to restore trust and calm tensions on campus.
Two police officers were videotaped Friday using pepper spray on the protesters while they were seated.
Video of the incident quickly spread on the internet, sparking widespread outrage.
The officers involved are also on administrative leave.
UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi says the university will create a task force to conduct a review of the pepper spray incident.
