The Penitas Police department seized more than 500 pounds of marijuana.

Authorities say a van was spotted by an unmarked police unit and attempted to escape beginning a chase and ending up at the Rio Grande river. The driver escaped into Mexico leaving behind in the van 36 bundles totaling 559 pounds of marijuana.
