Pedestrian killed attempting to cross street

Pharr police are investigating the death of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Thursday night.

On August 15th at 9:30 p.m. police responded to a woman being struck by a Jeep Wrangler on Sugar Road and W. Ferguson.

When officers arrived the driver of the Jeep, identified as Heriberto Contreras, 54, who stated he was traveling from McAllen on Ferguson when he struck a woman, identified as Rosa Ortega Valdez, 65, as she was crossing the street.

Ms. Valdez was pronounced dead at the scene by JP Rosa Trevino and police continue to investigate the case.
