LA ROSITA- Border Patrol usually seizes dozens of pounds of marijuana, but over the weekend they seized something out of the ordinary.

Amazon parrots were confiscated in La Rosita on Sunday, after the smugglers dropped the bird cage and made a run for it. The birds have an estimated value of $500 and are expected to be turned over to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The treaties from the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora have made the trapping of wild parrots illegal.
