Panty Thief Busted
Police say burglar targeted undies of Ole Miss coeds.
The Oxford, Missisippi panty bandit is behind bars.
Joseph Paul Lillo, 32, is charged with multiple counts of burglary in the thefts.
Lillo llegedly spent time preying on women in Lafayette County, particularly students at Ole Miss.
"I feel a sense of violation for someone to steal something as personal as that," said Oxford resident Heather Owens.
Owens lives Eagles Nest Lane in Oxford, the street where Lillo's final victims lives.
"To find out it was here is a little scary," she said.
Just before Lillo was caught a neighbor noticed a suspicious car and a suspicious man go in to a house on Eagles Nest Lane.
When police arrived to take the panty burglary report, the neighbor told police the man's license tag number.
Oxford police chief Michael Martin said a search of Lillo's house uncovered enough panties to link him to 15 burglaries.
"What was he doing with all this underwear. I couldn't begin to tell you," Martin said.
The thefts stared in June.
The burglar would break in to people's homes and take all of his victims' underwear from drawers and dirty clothes hampers.
He even stole photos of the victims.
"This is not normal behavior," Martin said.
On top of that, authorities said, stealing panties can lead to something more serious.
"It was never funny or a joke to us, because we were concerned it could escalate into something else," Martin said.
