PALMVIEW, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Residents of Palmview may no longer have to worry about their septic systems. That's because a new sewage system is going to be installed for everybody in the city.
A great majority of the $44 million project cost will be covered from grants. The new system will cover Palmview's 3,000 residents with the ability to expand to cover 8,000.
The district manager of the project says it could spur economic development.
"Probably bring in what they call the big box retailers, your Kohl's, your Targets, things like this, hopefully. Which would help the city a lot as far as jobs locally," said Francisco "Frank" Flores, the district manager for Agua Special Utility District. "But it also improves the health and sanitation of the existing septic systems... The sewage goes somewhere and doesn't stay on the property it goes to a plant where it gets treated."
The project is expected to begin next summer and finish by early 2016.
