Temperatures have been cold lately, far more than what we're used to. It prompted shelters across the Valley to prepare for those individuals looking for protection from cold, Na'Tassia Finley reports from the Ozanam Center.

"We just started the year and it has been busy for us, real busy for us actually, since the start of the year."  That's how Victor Maldonado, Director at the Ozanam Center stated.

Things aren't looking to slow down over the next few days, right now the Ozanam Center is housing 68 residents with the capacity to house two hundred. Staff members believe more will be coming in as the temperature continues to drop into the night.

Victor Maldonado, "In the last two days we've had new people, in take for about 10 to 12 people, new individuals." The shelter is open 24 hours a day, Sandra Espinoza is one of the new residents, "I wish other people would take advantage of this place."

She admits to having slept out on the streets during the cold snaps here in the Valley. She's happy that tonight she'll find warmth in a bed here at the shelter, "It's good because right here I have everything I need, a place to stay, a roof over my head and I won't have to sleep in the street."
