Over $2.5 million in cocaine seized at Hidalgo port of entry

HIDALGO CITY, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized over $2.5 million dollars worth of cocaine in two separate incidents at the Hidalgo port of entry.
In the first incident, on Wednesday morning of April 9th CBP officers came into contact with Mexican woman, 20 , from Reynosa driving a green 2001 Chevy Impala.
She was referred to a secondary inspection where a imaging system unveiled packages hidden within the vehicle. Officers were able to find and remove 19 packages of alleged cocaine weighing over 45 lbs. and with an estimated value of $1,442,000.
In the second incident, on the same day, officers encountered a black 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by a man, 33, from McAllen.
He was sent to a secondary examination where officers discovered 31 packages of alleged cocaine, weighing over 41 lbs., and an estimated value of $1,328,000.
Both individuals were arrested and released into the custody of Homeland Security investigators for further questioning.
