Burnt oranges and grass but luckily no burned down homes.

Two brush trucks and two tankers from the Brownsville Fire Department were using that equipment to fight the grass fire but something else helped them to fight the fire; the orange orchard.

Brownsville Fire Lt. Ernest Galvan says with the gusty wind they used the orchard as a barrier to help stop the fire spread. He also states that luck was on their side with the wind blowing the opposite direction preventing the flames from spreading quickly.

Lt. Galvan says about 30 to 40 acres of grass were burnt and that they contained the fire within hours.
