A scare at the Donna Police Department, shut them down for a couple hours today.
Something you definitely would not expect...shut down Donna's P-D...Onion Salt.
Emergency Management Authorities say, around Ten this morning, one of the employees at the Donna Police Department opened up an envelope which contained white powder.
Hazmat teams were called in to test the powder to see if it was dangerous or not.
Thirteen people were inside at the time, and only three were exposed to it.
After testing it, they discovered, it was onion salt, not a deadly powder.
Weslaco's Emergency Management Coordinator, George Garrett, says their high-tech equipment can easily spot a dangerous substance, from something like onion salt.
Garrett says,"Fortunately we were able to identify the substance before decontamination. that's one of the reasons we bring in the sophisticated equipment that we do."
Haz-mat teams from McAllen and Weslaco responded to the perceived threat, as well as fire departments from Pharr and Donna.
The envelope, had six pages of scribbling and no return address.
Donna Police are now trying to find out who sent the mysterious envelope.
