One man is dead and another is recovering from gun shot wounds after an early morning shooting north of Donna.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of shots fired on Armando Street early this morning just after 1 a.m.

The two victims are identified as Jose Jesus Zavala and Edgar Osbaldo Zavala.

Edgar Zavala was pronounced dead from a gun shot wound to the head.  Jose Zavala is currently in stable condition at a local hospital.

Investigators have identified 36-year-old Jesus Daniel Romero Garcia as the suspect and have a warrant for his arrest.

"The suspect is still at large," said J.P. Rodriguez, spokesperson for the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.  "We're following up on several leads and we're continuing to process this crime scene."

Garcia was last seen driving from the crime scene in a black Volkswagon Jetta with Texas license plates BSY-4783.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear at this point in the investigation.

"They have to speak to multiple witnesses, obtain witness testimony, and also see if it corroborates with the physical evidence that's recovered at the scene," said Rodriguez.

Multiple agencies are working with Hidalgo County authorities in the investigation, including ATF and the Texas Rangers.

There are two houses that are part of the crime scene located next door to one another.  No word yet on if either of the two victims lived in both homes or just one.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on this crime to contact Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers at (956) 668-8477.
