EDINBURG, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Investigators are looking for the people responsible for setting a fire in the old Super Splash water park.
Edinburg Fire Marshals say somebody set fire to large piles of brush Monday night.
The abandoned park in Edinburg had the brush ready to be cleared.
Super Splash has not been open for about a decade.
"We're out there until 3 a.m. (Monday) night trying to extinguish the fires," Edinburg Fire Marshal Omar Garza said. "We probably emptied about 80,000 to 100,000 gallons of water that we used to extinguish the fire. We're working with the property owners right now to try to get it cleared up again and either hauled off or issue them a burn permit so they can burn it properly."
The perpetrator is facing possible criminal charges. Smoke billowed into nearby neighborhoods, but no homes were threatened.
