Port Isabel police say Rafael Cardenas Vela and other man were pulled over along the 500 block of Texas highway 100 for speeding last Thursday night.
They were then were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs officials for discrepancies with their identification
Cardenas is the nephew of this man imprisoned gulf cartel kingpin Osiel Cardenas Guillen.

"I was a a little surprised they way the arrest took place it was a traffic stop, the police officer did his do diligence and ultimately a bad guy was caught."

What judge Carlos Cascos is not surprised about is cartel members here in the Valley.

"This is what I have been suggesting for the last 4 years since I was county judge these drug cartel members are here, I know it's easy to look the other way but these men and woman involved in the cartel and living here in unanimity."

This has not been the only cartel related incident that has occurred in Cameron County. Back on September 30th, 2010 police confirmed two men that were gunned down and found dead in a truck on FM 511 was cartel related.

"The concern that we have some inoccent getting in the way collateral damage get shot by accident."
"I don't think you can do anything about them living here but we do need to vigilant, local law enforcement needs to recognize we have a problem, law enforcement is doing what they can with the resources we have available hopefully this sends a message further up command to bring additional resources down to help this."
