Officer Shot Responding to Family Distrubance Call

San Antonio, TX — A San Antonio police officer was shot after responding to a family disturbance call at a downtown motel.
Police surrounded a motel north of Downtown after an officer was shot there Monday morning. According to police, officers responded to a family disturbance call at the Super 8 Motel at 1614 North St. Mary's Street around 7:53 a.m. Monday.
Police say when the officers arrived, the suspect shot through the motel room door, and an officer was struck in the head. A police department spokesperson told News 4 San Antonio the officer, an 8-year veteran of the department, was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) and is expected to survive.
Police say the suspect is a male in his late 30's and is believed to still be inside the motel room. SWAT negotiators are on scene. Central Catholic High School and Providence Catholic School have been placed on lockdown.
School officials say all students are inside and safe. Police have closed northbound and southbound Interstate 35, from Interstate 37 to Interstate 10. St. Mary's Street is also closed between Camden and Quincy. We have a crew at the scene and will provide updates as more details become available.
