AUSTIN - A police officer in Austin killed while on duty. He was responding to a 911 call after it was reported a drunken man was walking around a parking a lot.
It was inside the Walmart off Parmer Lane when Senior Austin Police Officer Jaime Padron tried to talk to the suspect but instead the suspect tried to fight the officer.
Amazingly Padron was able to radio dispatch to say he was. Two Walmart employees jumped on the suspect, shoppers say they heard the shot but thought it was 2 by 4 landing on the ground. Many ran to try to get out of the store. A second officer arrived within seconds of the shooting and arrested the suspect then performed CPR on Padron before EMS arrived. When officer Padron was taken out of Walmart more than a dozen officers saluted their comrade as he was placed into a van.
