Sunday morning Primera police responded to a disturbance at on home SPC. Eric De Salinas road.
Police say family members got into a verbal argument with each other.
When police arrived they say a male suspect was holding a rifle.

"The individual refused to drop his weapon, he fired one round at my officer hitting his police car."

"The Primera police chief says the officer then opened fire shooting the suspect in the leg."

A total of two rounds were fired, one hitting the suspect.
The suspect will face charges of aggravated assault on peace officer.
The police chief says police officers responding to disturbance calls like involving family members are the toughest calls for them to respond to.

"You don't know what the individual has in house, you don't know what his reaction is going to be when he sees the police, almost every domestic call is most of the dangerous call for police."

The Texas Rangers will be taking over the investigation. Right now the suspect is in the hospital and the officer is on standard administrative leave.

"He was put on leave for the next couple days, and will be reevaluated to see if he is ready to get back on the road."

Besides the suspects being hit no one was else was injured.
