A midnight traffic stop ends with one man in jail after a police officer discovers more than 300 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle.

Mission police say Javier Bocanegra Jr., 22, was caught speeding in the area of 27th and Lincoln Streets before slowing his speed down to five miles per hour.

The speed limit in that area is 30 mph.

The officer pulled him over and noticed that Bocanegra had about 30 bundles of alleged marijuana in his white BMW SUV.

"The officer shined his light inside of the vehicle because he wanted to see if there were more people in the car," explained Sgt. Manny Casas with the Mission Police Department.  "But what he did see in the passenger side was not a person but bundles of marijuana."

Bocanegra is charged with possession of marijuana, a second degree felony, and was given a $200,000 fine.

Police say the suspect does not have a criminal history and that he was extremely polite to the arresting officer.
