Non-Profit Organization Donates Money for Student Grants

McALLEN - in a effort to help students succeed in higher education, an organization awarded close to $900,000 dollars in grants to several Valley programs.

The non-profit organization, named "TG Public Benefit Program", awarded McAllen I.S.D., the University of Texas at Pan American and the University of Texas at Brownsville a check for the grants. School leaders and students gathered at Nikke Rowe high school to receive the grant money and the funding is earmarked for mentoring students, instructional programming and college preparation. The program is geared towards creating a positive change in the community and helping students recognize the benefits of earning a degree.

McAllen I.S.D. employee Glenda McClendon stated, "We feel its so important for every student to have that opportunity and go to college. That's the goal of our district so that every student go to college and be successful and not just get in but go ahead and complete college and get that degree."
