BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — At about 1 a.m. Sunday morning, South Padre Island Police received several calls about an altercation between multiple people in two vehicles.
Police say it happened right outside the Stripes convenient store at 2000 Padre Blvd.
Up to seven gunshots were fired. Police believe the shots were fired at the ground because of the shell casings and bullet fragments.
One individual was injured. No arrests have been made so far.
"One individual was hurt from bullet fragments that must've ricocheted off the pavement, and then injured the subject," said South Padre Island police chief Randy Smith. "He was transported to the hospital where he received some treatment as was released later that morning, Sunday morning."
Four people from one car are being questioned, but the other car got away. Police are still reviewing tapes from the convenient store to try to figure out what happened.
