BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — We all know the song from attending many birthdays, but only a few of us will ever get the opportunity to celebrate being a centenarian like Ninfa Peña. On Saturday, she celebrated her 100th birthday party alongside family and friends at The Club at Cimmaron in Mission.
“My mother has been really excited about, uh, today’s occasion, and uh, you know, uh, it’s been a great thing for the family. We’re blessed to have our mother all this time.”
Ninfa's family and friends were not hte only ones to wish her well. She received letters from Barack and Michelle Obama, Texas Representative Henry Cuellar, and a blanket from the City of Mission.
Despite this being such a momentous occasion, the blanket from the City of Mission may be the only gift you see here. Ninfa is a devout Catholic and stays up-to-date with the progress of her church's reconstruction.
"Instead of gifts, Ninfa asked her guests to donate money to the remodeling of her church, Our Lady of Guadalupe."
Ninfa commented on how much it meant for her to have her loved ones celebrating her life.
“Thank you, thank you.”
Loved ones close to Ninfa expressed their gratitude that even at 100 years old, she still has good health, humor and spirits.
