New Year Twins
Mom gives birth to one twin in 2010, the other in 2011.
New Years will never be the same for new parents Ashley Fansler and Brandon Lewis.
The Rockford, Illinois couple's twins arrived moments apart, but in separate years.
"It's hard to think that these two were in my tummy," Fansler said shortly after giving birth.
Little Madisen Carin Lewis was born first, with just one minute left in 2010.
Then came her brother Aiden Everette Lewis, right at midnight, 2011.
"I haven't even finished telling everybody yet," said Fansler.
This near-impossible result stemmed from a complication.
Ashley's due date wasn't until January 28th, but after doing a few tests, results prompted the doctor to recommend a C-section.
This presented the expecting parents with a unique choice.
"The doctor said if we wanted to deliver one this year, and one next year we could if everything was all good," said Brandon Lewis. "So we decided to do it that way and everything worked out."
Even though they chose to have the babies in different years, Fansler and Lewis still consider their children's birth a miracle.
Brandon's little sister Grace Kemnitz was surprised at the timing of the births.
She's already looking forward to babysitting.
"I love babies," said Kemnitz.
Brandon's grandmother Dixie Zander couldn't be happier.
"I know what it's like to be a great grandma," said Zander. "The twins are beautiful children, and grandpa and I will just be there for them.
This was not the only birth of its kind this year.
A couple in North Carolina also gave birth to twins who split the two years.
