The government is rolling out a new list of rights for airline travelers.

It seems today flying has become anything but friendly.

Now passengers just got a leg up from the Federal Government

New protections are expanding on the so-called “passenger bill of rights” already in place.

At the top of the list, airlines will now have to refund baggage fees when luggage is lost.

Something travelers like Gail Rigler have been complaining about for some time.

"I think it's crazy to have to pay for your luggage. And then the insult on top of it is if it gets lost, not to have that has a bare minimum.

Also gone is charging passengers with those hidden costs beyond the ticket price.

Airlines will have to disclose those fees on their website.

Airlines will also being paying more if passengers are bumped on oversold flights. T

The cost of the ticket plus extra compensation

On rebooked flights, delays less than two hours up to $650 dollars

And up to $1300 for delays more than two hours

The new government rules also expand tarmac delay penalties, already a three-hour limit for domestic flights.

They will now include international flights that sit on the tarmac for four hours.

Airline trade groups say the airlines have worked to meet passenger’s demands, but are warning the new tarmac rules could lead to more flight cancellations to avoid steep fines.

The new rules are expected to go into effect in late August.
