Custom officers arrested a New Jersey woman who allegedly attempted to smuggle a female child into the United States at a local port of entry.

On Sunday night, April 21, a Princeton, New Jersey woman, 45, and three minor female children approached the Hidalgo Reynosa port of entry in a taxicab.

The woman presented a passport for herself and three U.S. birth certificates for the children, who she claimed were her daughters. The woman was sent to a secondary inspection and after further questioning it was revealed that one minor female, 8, was not related to the woman.

Officers found out that the child was a Guatemalan citizen without a valid document to enter the United States.

The woman was arrested on charges for alleged violation of U.S. immigration law. The two other minor children were handed over to Child Protective Services and the Guatemalan child to a Health and Human Services Office of Resettlement facility.
