New Hidalgo County Commissioner Sworn In

Mercedes Mayor Joel Quintanilla was sworn in on Wednesday morning as Hidalgo County Commissioner for Precinct 1 in Weslaco after the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court approved his win to the seat.

He won the seat against Interim Commissioner A.C. Cuellar, who ran this election as a write-in,  and excitement filled the air as hundreds of  his supporters showing up for the ceremony. Quintanilla was sworn in by the Honorable Judge's Gilbert Hinojosa and Homer Salinas. Quintanilla says that he's aware there's a tough road ahead and hopes to tackle the budget issues that the precinct is facing right now.

The new County Commissioner says he will be transparent and will be accountable and responsible to all of the citizens in Precinct 1. Hidalgo County Treasurer and former mayor of Mercedes had some words of advice for Quintanilla. Joel Quintanilla will server two years in this seat and will be up for re-election in 2012.
