Baby Olivia pulled off life support, parents blame the use of forceps during assisted vaginal birth.

Olivia Marie Coats, born on December 28th in Port Arthur, Texas was taken off life support on Thursday. CNN affiliate KBMT reports the baby girl suffered from a fractured skull and a severed spinal cord.

Her parents, Rachel Melancon and Allen Coats blame the injuries on the use of forceps during an attempted assisted vaginal birth at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.

Baby Olivia was eventually delivered by an emergency C -section. Close family friend Cinda Castle is speaking on behalf of the family, "Perfectly healthy beautiful baby girl, to lifeless. We are finding out a lot of people and a lot of people have been hurt and traumatized from the use of forceps."

The CEO of the Medical Center of Southeast Texas says the hospital cannot comment on Olivia's case because of federal medical privacy laws.

Melancon and Coats say they want to establish "The Olivia Law." A law banning the use of forceps during assisted vaginal births.

This story has gained some national recognition on social media. In just a few days a Facebook page named after the newborn has reached over 20,000 followers.
