New statistics from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention show national teen pregnancy rates are at a record low. Some local Doctors say when it comes to the upper valley, they disagree. Compared to ten years ago, the rates in Hidalgo County have dropped. Some say the numbers are still too high.

Dr.Martinez says he sees a trend at his Upper Valley clinic. Most teens moms who pass through where born to teenage mothers themselves. Researchers say there are a lot of others factors that contribute to teen pregnancy. Hearn says poverty rates may be keeping those numbers up.

The last recorded pregnancy rate shows Hidalgo County is 10% greater than the 26% average of the entire state.
One that local clinics fear will go even higher due to potential cuts.
