National Guardsmen Leaving The Valley

RIO GRANDE VALLEY- Operation Phalanx will come to an end this June. This is what President Barack Obama signed nearly a year ago to deploy 1,200 National Guardsmen along the U.S.-Mexican border.
According to Border Patrol Special Operations Supervisor Enrique Mendiola, 285 National Guardsmen helping to be the eyes and ears of Border Patrol here in the Valley.
Border officials say the guardsmen have been a huge support to them in fighting against illegal activity. Since they've been deployed they have helped to confiscate 4,500 pounds of narcotics and helped in 1,200 apprehensions. The withdraw will go through June.
