National Guard Troops to Remain on Texas Border Until August
National Guard troops called in to assist along the Mexican border, will remain in place for another three months.
The extended deployment affects 1,200 National Guard troops that were sent to assist the Border Patrol last August. The move is intended to keep pressure on illegal border crossings while the Department of Homeland Security builds more fences and installs sensors. Congress authorized the Department of Homeland Security to hire an additional 1,000 Border Patrol agents, 250 officers at ports of entry and 250 immigration officers.
