Motorcyclist charged with intoxication manslaughter in cyclist death

A cyclist is dead after he was hit by a motorcycle early Tuesday morning, Na'tassia Finley has more on the deadly accident.

This is where Brownsville police believe it all stared on, the fatal collision happened in the 200 block of East Price Road just after 1 a.m.

Victor Manuel Zamora, 43, has been charged with manslaughter after striking a man who was riding his bicycle. Investigators say the victim, John Mark Rangel, 48, did have proper lighting and reflectors on the bike that would have made him visible to drivers.

But those safety measures were not enough to protect him from an alleged drunk driver. Police say that Zamora was traveling eastbound on Price Road, on his motorcycle, when he struck Rangel, who was riding his cycle, in the same direction.

Police report that Rangel was pronounced dead at the scene and have ordered an autopsy.

Zamora was arraigned and charged with intoxication manslaughter in court on Wednesday morning and handed a $500,000 bond.
