EDINBURG — Four month old Aiden McGuire and his mother Supang McGuire are happy to be a part of Doctor's Hospital at Renaissance's new Baby Café.
"I am a first time mom, and it's not easy," said Supang McGuire, mother.
Both child and mother are here for help in these beginning days of motherhood. It's a time of life filled with questions.
"We try to give information to mommies. Usually it is lack of information, that they don't know what to do," said Sandra Escamilla, Lactation Consultant.
But luckily, Baby Café is the place to come and get those everyday questions answered, especially about breastfeeding.
"I think most people think oh, breast feeding is going to come natural. But sometimes, you need help. Yes, and they helped me a lot about latch-on, the position, how long you feed the baby, and everything else it's like, it's not just about breast feeding, it about you bonding with your baby," said McGuire.
So in an informal environment, both mother and child get to learn from medical experts.
And one of the main goals of Baby Café is to create a support system for these new mothers. So any mom is always welcome to come and enjoy the camaraderie with other mothers.
This is McGuire's third time coming to the walk-in café.
"I like to come, it's like a social thing, you talk to people, you come out of your house, and your baby gets exposed to new things too, they need to learn," said McGuire.
Today they have learned all they need, but even as McGuire waves, she knows she and Aiden will be back.
Baby Cafe meets on Monday's from 8:30 to 11:30 and on Tuesday's from 1:30 to 4:30 at DHR Women's Hospital.
