Mother gives birth to 14 pound baby boy
Gainesville, FL — A family in Keystone Heights, Florida, received a very big blessing ahead of Christmas, this year. As Trent Kelly reports, a Florida woman delivered one of the biggest babies in the hospital had ever seen.
Nicia Mcnelley, Mother, "I was surprised. I was shocked. I really said, 'Oh my god.' Literally."
When Nicia McNelley was going into her pre-scheduled cesearean section last Friday, little did she know she would be just ounces away from breaking a record, "I couldn't believe it. I mean, I have two other kids, but not as big as this guy."
McNelly's baby, named Isaiah Johnson, topped the scale at a whopping 14 pounds and 7.6 ounces, becoming the second biggest baby to be born in Florida, this year, and one of the largest ever born at UF Health Shands, catching both the doctors and the mother by surprise.
Nicia McNelley, "Me and his dad, you know, sat and thought, you know, maybe at the most maybe 10. Maybe 12. But, no, not 14."
Trent Kelly, "Now, just to give you a little bit of perspective here, 14 pounds and seven ounces is roughly the same weight as two gallons of milk, a George Foreman lean mean grilling machine, and yes, even a full size vacuum."
Nicia McNelley, "Very heavy. Very heavy. It felt like constantly he was going to fall out, but he didn't."
McNelley, who lives in Keystone Heights with her two other children and Isaiah's father, says, like any parent, they've already put some thought into young Isaiah's future, "You know, God forgive me, because you know I'm in Gator country. God forgive me, but my boyfriend is a Seminole fan, so he's wanting him to play football for the Seminoles."
Trent Kelly, "You gonna let that happen?"
Nicia McNelley, "I don't think so."
And as for any more children, "No, I got my tubes tied, and I'm glad I did, because if I would've decided to have more children after this, there's no telling how big they would be after him."
