A woman is in jail after police found her infant child wandering the street alone.

The child was discovered on the 200 block of Agua Fina Avenue in Edinburg. Police needed a half hour before finding the mother two blocks away.

Marie Garcia was charged with child endangerment and given a $25,000 bond.

"On arrival, the officers made contact with a female who reported that she was traveling through the area, that she almost ran over this child," Lt. Oscar Treviño of the Edinburg Police Department said. "The mother was inside an apartment complex, on the next street over, and she had no idea that her child was missing."

Garcia told officers she was preoccupied with another infant child of hers.

The charge carries a possible six to 24 month sentence.
