HIDALGO CO.-  Suspected smugglers pickup trucks and more drugs were seized by Border Patrol. According to Border Patrol officials, the incident occurred when agents working in Peñitas, Texas, saw two vehicles being driven south toward the Rio Grande. The vehicles stopped at the river for a few minutes before being driven north at a high rate of speed.

As additional agents responded to the area, the two pickup trucks headed back south. One of the trucks was abandoned at the river's edge after becoming stuck in the sand. The driver of the other pickup lost control of the vehicle and immediately abandoned it.

Inside the pair of vehicles agents found 186 bundles of marijuana, with a value of more than $2 million.

Both vehicles were determined to have been stolen and will be turned over to the Mission, Texas, Police Department.

The marijuana will be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations
