More Citrus Trees Test Positive for Greening Disease
Several more citrus trees have been found to come back positive with the citrus greening disease in San Juan.
Those trees are located in the same area as the original outbreak and that has some Valley growers concerned. The disease is deadly and contagious to other citrus trees but not harmful to humans if they consume the fruit. The contamination remains in place and is restricted to that area as Citrus Center Director John Dagraca says, "Fruit can be harvested under conditions which prevent leaves traveling out with the food to the packing shed, so we're trying to keep the citrus industry in operation in that area with minimal disruption, but try to prevent any spread to other areas."
