Mom Nabs Burglar
Mother of three chases down and holds car burglar for police.
A Naples, Florida mother sprang into action after catching a burglar in the act.
She took matters into her own hands and chased down the criminal, cornering him until deputies got there.
Betsy Stibler's family was sleeping Thursday when she woke up to find an unwelcome visitor in the family's driveway.
The man was stealing from her husband's car.
Betsy called 911, then chased him barefoot through the Island Walk community, down a jogging trail and up a bridge, until the man stopped.
"We got to the bridge and he said to me 'You better back off,' and I said 'Or what?'"
He kept running, and so did Betsy.
"I kept telling him, ‘You better run because if I catch you I'm going to beat you half to death,' I was trying to intimidate him," she said.
The mother of three knew he couldn't outrun her.
She recently started jogging in honor of her father, who just received a heart transplant.
"If Daddy can get a new heart, I can try my best to get into shape and start running," says Betsy.
She ran this time until the man was cornered.
Collier County Deputies arrived and arrested Roy Hansen for burglary.
It's a subject Betsy is all too familiar with.
"I have had cars broken into when I lived in Atlanta, as a child growing up we had our home burglarized several times, and when I was very young during one of those robberies our babysitter was abducted and murdered so I don't like property crimes."
Or any crime for that matter.
"I'm not brave, just a mother who was mad about it who decided to do something about it," says Betsy.
