A Mission High School student is recognized for his art work with state competition medal.

A clay sculpture created by Mission High School student, Pedro Cantu received a Superior Rating IV, the highest possible at the recent state Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) held in College Station, Texas.

In order to reach the state competition, student projects must receive a similar rating at three levels of competition. Those earning the Superior Rating IV receive medals for their artwork.

Cantu created a self-portrait bust depicted as a Roman soldier. Judging at the various contest levels include student interviews as well as their artworks being juried by certified professional Texas Arts Education Association jurors.
