Students at Bryan Elementary in Mission are closer to nature after a visit from the zoo.

The visit was a reward for a reading program held by the Mission School District.

Bryan's third graders were among the three schools with the most books read. They were able to see maybe touch a snake, macaw and guinea pig. All courtesy of the Gladys Porter Zoo.

"They've got a mobile program where they bring several smaller animals and do presentations where they do some fun visits that are also very educational for the kids," said Mission CISD's Craig Verley. "And the students really enjoy these visits."

The other winning schools are Midkiff and Mims Elementary.
