Mission Police Arrest Drug Smuggler

Border Patrol agents caught and arrested a suspected drug smuggler when he tried running form them on Thursday morning.

Border Patrol agents say they saw the man driving away from the Rio Grande river in Hidalgo county and when they tried to pull him over for questioning, he sped off. In his attempt to escape he sped off and then loss control making a turn and flipped over at the intersection of Shary road and Old Military Highway in Mission.

Officials say the driver had 500 pounds of narcotics stashed in the car and as it flipped over the marijuana spilling over onto the street. Emergency crews took the man to a local hospital with minor injures and will be taken into custody by the DEA.
