A Mission deacon and school principal is behind bars for allegedly sexually abusing an altar boy over a two-year time period.

Mission Police says the victim named Ronaldo Mitchell Chavez as his abuser, claiming Chavez molested him multiple times.

The victim, who is now 17-years-old, reported that the abuse began when he was 15-years-old.  The victim told investigators that the deacon would drive all the children to their respective homes, but the victim was taken to Chavez's home where the alleged sexual abuse happened.

Officials told Newscenter 23 that Chavez served as a deacon at a church in Granjeno, and was also the principal of South Texas Educational Technologies Inc.  The school's website has removed Chavez from their administration directory.

Police arrested Chavez on Friday afternoon and charged him with continuous sexual abuse of a child.  He was given a $10,000 bond and is in custody at the Hidalgo County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing as police look into the possibility of more victims coming forward to claim abuse.
