Mission CISD speaks out on security upgrades

MISSION, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — It's the new age of school security: cameras feeding live video to a command center, which, during a crisis, can be viewed by law enforcement.
School security, in the wake of the sandy hook elementary school tragedy is taking on a new look.
And for the mission CISD school safety is paramount. Craig Verley is a spokesperson for Mission CISD. Verley says, "Part of what we are spending overall, we''re spending $1.6 million dollars on security related improvements throughout the school district that will literally touch every and single facility in the school district."
So far the school district in in phase to of the upgrade.
On Wednesday technicians were on hand at Waitz Elementary to install the new security devices.
"and the security cameras...they're just a small visible portion of what the CISD is doing to help keep schools safer."
CISD spokesperson Craig Verley says says these are only a few measures they'll be taking.
Wireless gates and restricted access to classrooms already exist in some mission CISD schools.
Verley says, "It's going to be a never ending type of thing this just happens to be a one time situation in time where we are really able to address a lot of issues all at one."
