Fire crews from Cameron County battled a group of grass fires, by FM-800 near FM 3067, and South of Business 83.
Even though, very little smoke could be seen and the flames weren't exactly ferocious.
That doesn't mean that fire crews didn't take these mini-fires seriously.
Harlingen Fire Captain Joe Garcia says, the blaze started near La Feria along FM-800.
About five mini-fires broke out, keeping firefighters mopping up hot-spots for hours.
Capt. garcia says it was a joint effort between the Harlingen and La Feria fire departments.
They also got help from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife.
What also helped to control these fires was the fact that the grass in the area was not very tall.
There were also, trees and shrubs, which helped slow down the fire's progression.
Capt. Garcia says, what helped to speed it up, were flying embers blowing in today's heavy winds.
"Grass fires are just those things that you can't ever tell what truly happened, and it doesn't help when you have wind conditions like this," he says.
At this hour, Fire crews now have everything under control.
This area is primarily a rural area, so no homes were in immediate danger of burning.
