Million Dollar Bond
Florida father accused of killing one child and burning another with pesticide will remain in jail.
A man at the center of a strange aggravated child abuse investigation has been ordered held on one million dollars bond.
Jorge Barahona refused to make his first court appearance Thursday morning at Florida's Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Complex.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Barahona tried to injure himself while in custody.
A spokesperson said he "attempted to harm himself by thrusting himself backwards causing an injury to his head."
He was checked and it was determined Barahona was not seriously hurt and able to appear in court, but the sheriff's office says he refused.
At his hearing, Judge Ted Booras determined Barahona was a flight risk as well as a danger to himself and the community.
Judge Booras said based on the aggravated child abuse charge, he has no legal reason to set "no bond", so he set bond at one million dollars.
Barahona is also ordered to undergo a mental evaluation before making his first court appearance.
No date was set for that court appearance.
Barahona was later transported to Wellington Regional Medical Center for observation.
Barahona was found beside his truck Monday evening just north of the Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard exit on I-95 in Palm Beach County.
His adopted son, 10 year old Victor Barahona, was found inside the truck.
Victor had acid on him and was having seizures.
Upon investigating the truck the body of Barahona's 10 year old daughter, Nubia Barahona, was found in the back of the truck.
The cause of her death has not yet been released.
